Return Day is a Sussex County tradition dating back to 1792.  The `Burying the Hatchet' ceremony gives the winners and the losers of the election the opportunity to put their differences aside and move forward.

Local dignitaries gather on the stage in front of the Sussex County Courthouse on The Circle for speeches and the customary `Burying of the Hatchet' ceremony. Georgetown Mayor Brian Pettyjohn speaks to the crowd while U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, former U.S. Senator Tom Carper, U.S. Senator-elect Chris Coons, and other local politicians listen.
